Konkan – region of natural wonders. Konkan has much more to offer. It is home to many endemic and critically endangered species, from the elusive vulnerable Indian gaur to diminutive weaver ants; where pangolines are worshiped for their survival and Olive Ridley Turtles are conserved. Wild Konkan takes you deep into the heart of the Konkan in the spectacular unspoiled environment. This is our sincere effort to showcase species richness of the area and support conservation of this globally unique habitat.

Geography of konkan

Konkan is a section of the western coastline of India from Raigad to Mangalore. The Sahyadri Mountain range or the Western Ghats forms the eastern boundary of the Konkan, and the Arabian Sea marks the western boundary.

Region stretches approximately 530 km from the Daman Ganga River north of Mumbai to the Terekhol River between Maharashtra and Goa states. Konkan region consists of Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Thane districts.

Climate in konkan

June to September is a Monsoon season. July and August are quite rainy and typically the wettest months of the year.

October to February, temperature is a bit milder with less humid conditions. Average temperatures between 20°C to 25°C.

March to June is a summer. Hottest month is usually April. Average temperatures for the summer season are between 32°C to 40°C.

Habitat in konkan

While traveling through Konkan, you pass through various habitats such as the twisted Ghat roads, thick forests, high mountains, stretches of coasts, evergreen mangroves, vast lateritic plateaus, wide rivers and the cherished sacred groves.

These are home to many critically endangered, endemic species of plants and animals.
